Tomorrow is Father’s Day, but not all men will celebrate. Some did not have a father around, while others had strained relationships with their dad. I am one of those men. I tried to be close to my dad, but he didn’t want to be close to me. Growing up, I was very open about my feelings and thoughts, but my father was not okay with that. To gain his love and approval, I chose to be quiet and be the son he wanted me to be. I grew up thinking my father didn’t love me, and I spent many nights crying myself to sleep. Finally, many years later, I tried to talk with him about my years of unhealed wounds because I felt he didn’t love me. His response: “The past is over and done with. Can’t you get over it? Can’t we move on?” I wrote an article on my relationship with my father in hopes of helping others who may have had the same childhood experience. Did what happen to me happen to you?
